Chappell Roan's real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz. Her name's Chappell is from her maternal grandfather's middle name and Roan refers to a specific type of horse and her favorite song, The Strawberry Roan, by Curley Fletcher. This name shows her artistic reflectivity.

Kara Chappell and Dwight Amstutz are parents of Chappell Roan. Kara was a veterinarian and Dwight was a nurse in neurological and ICU. She was brought up in the Christian town Willard. She went to a Christian camp almost three times a week along with her family and did summer camps there as well.

Musical Training:

Chappell Roan started to learn and play piano at the age of ten and shows a deep interest in music. Soon she started taking formal classes and performed for the first time at her school talent show. She performed The Christmas Song and beat the stage. During these years she also went to summer camps at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and wrote the song Die Young.

Start of Musical Carrier:

Chappell created a YouTube channel in 2014 and uploaded her Die Young song for the purpose of getting attention from several record labels. As a result, a year later she signed a contract with Atlantic Records. Years later her grandfather died  and she adopted her stage name Chappell Roan in honor of him.

Release of First Single: 

She released her first single Good Hurt in 2017, followed by her EP School Nights. A few months later Chappell opened for Vance Joy on his Lay It On Me tour. The next year, she shifted to Los Angeles and started to explore her queer identity, which influenced her artistic evolution.

She released the Pink Pony Club song in 2020, which gave her a huge success in queer culture. Although this song did not get any success in the beginning, at the end of the year, this song became popular and earned the best song of 2020 title by USA Today.

Independent artist:

In 2023, Chappell Roan released Naked in Manhattan and Femininomenon as an independent artist. 

A year passed, she signed a contract with Amusement Records and released her first album, an autobiographical album titled The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess; this work was well received by critics and established her in the music business. By the middle of 2024, the album achieved significant success on the world's music charts and at one point held 1st position in IrelandNew Zealand and the United Kingdom, while also being fifth in the US and Australia. Not long after that, several of her singles which had been released some time earlier debuted on the other charts. In 2024, she performed as a support act during Olivia Rodrigo's Guts World Tour and also took part in major festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza, which increased her number of fans.

Chappell Roan earned LGBTQ+ nominees along with Victoria Monét in the MTV VMAs 2024 due to highlighting their contribution to queer music culture​. Also, she got support from the Sabrina CarpenterBillie eilish and different artists as well.

Private Life:

Chappell’s background in conservative society has influenced her acceptance of her queer identity and how she was raised. Regarding how life changed with that single diagnosis, Chappell, who identifies herself as bisexual, mentions that she was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 22, which then inclined her to seek fame and glory. Chappell supports the LGBTQ+ community through her music, art, and numerous social campaigns, further helping her to gain a larger audience.

Acknowledgments:

In 2024, Chappell Roan won the Best New Artist award at the now-legendary Video Music Awards held by MTV and became the winner of six nominations at the Grammy Awards in 2025, among which were Album of the Year and Best New Artist.
