She is the daughter of two evangelical pastors Maurice Keith Hudson and Mary Christine Perry. Her ancestry includes Portuguese, German, Irish and English. Frank Perry (1930-1995) was her uncle who was a film director and producer. She has a younger brother named David (born 1988), who is also a singer, and an older sister Angela (born 1982).

From the age of three to eleven years, she spent time in many states with her parents as they started new churches before settling back in Santa Barbara again.

Education:

During Katy’s elementary school years she attended religious schools and as well camps such as Paradise Valley Christian School and Santa Barbara Christian School.

Katy Perry grew up singing gospel music while listening to it. She said in one interview that Pop music came to her via borrowed CDs from friends. She began training as a vocalist at age nine, singing around in various churches with her parents’ music ministry. At the age of thirteen she got a guitar on her birthday from her parents. She also participated in dancing classes.

By freshman year of high school she had taken both GEDs (General Educational Development Tests) and left Dos Pueblos High School for professional goals. Not too much but she also learned Opera from the one of the  Academy which is located in the West of Santa Barbara.

She recorded her first gospel music album titled Katy Hudson at the age of the 15, which was not get success. She signed with the record label Island Def Jam Records in 2004. But then Katy canceled her other new album called Katy Perry. In the same year, Columbia Records offered her a contract and began working on another album named "The Matrix" which unfortunately did not see its release planned for that year. For one of these songs, they even released a music video but this album too was cancelled.

By 2007, things were now looking good for Katy. She joined Capitol Records and started recording his new album dubbed “One of the boys”, "Ur So Gay" was this albums first release which is highly controversial due to the meaning behind it. Madonna announced on two radio programs that Ur So Gay is currently her favorite song leading to her fame growing immensely.

I Kissed A Girl Released:

With “I Kissed A Girl”, she managed to top several charts including Australia, Canada, United Kingdom among others. “Hot N Cold” became number 3 on Billboard Hot 100 chart in USA and at the same time became number one hit in Germany, Canada and Denmark. “I Kissed a Girl” earned Perry a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2009. During its time at the annual MTV Video Music Awards in August 2008, it received five nominations from them.

On August 30th,2010; she dropped his second studio work which peaked as number one over multiple countries among them being billboard hot dance club play while singles like California Gurls, Teenage Dream or Firework respectively reached #1 spot in Billboards hot 100.

In addition to being named MTV’s Artist of the Year in 2011, she was also nominated for eight Grammys in 2012.

Fourth Studio Project Prism:

Perry embarked on creating her fourth studio project Prism in November of that year. Her lead single from it was dropped on August 10, 2013 and is called Roar which climbed to the top of Billboard Hot 100. The next single, Unconditionally came out on October 16, 2013 peaking at number fourteen in US Billboard 200.

Released on October 18th,2013; Prism opened at #1 position on billboard hot dance club play chart.

In 2014, she created her own label Metamorphosis Music.

Witness is Perry’s fifth studio album which was released on June 9th,2017 and was not received well by critics.

She featured in Taylor Swift ’s "You Need to Calm Down" video in June, 2019. Following her release of a single Never Worn White in March this year she performed it again with a music video that showed she actually had been bearing Orlando’s child for the first time. Daisies, its lead single from Smile, is set to be released as early as May15th before finally releasing sixth studio album Smile scheduled for August 28th 2020. She sat as a judge on American Idol and The X Factor. She also produced Purr, Meow! And Killer Queen perfumes.

    In the starting Katy Perry dated musician Travis McCoy. She was formerly a partner to British comedian Russell Brand. They married on October 23rd 2010 in India, however by December 30th 2011; just fourteen months into their marriage he filed for divorce in Los Angeles citing irreconcilable differences. In 2012, Katy Perry made an autobiographical documentary called Katy Perry: Part of Me, where she talked about her relationship with Russell Brand.

Katy Perry gave birth to a baby girl on August 27th2020 one day before releasing her album Smile, who is their first child together and second child for the actor.
