In 2020, he moved to the Prema Racing machine in Formula 3 and managed to become a champion in the debut season even when the rivals were strong. The following stage, he stepped up to Formula 2, still with the Prema team. This achievement allowed him to win the formula 2 championship in the very first year of participation Communication with his achievement with Piastri there shocked the formula circuit. One more achievement of Piastri was that he became the only driver to win the championship in formula 3 and formula 2 in successive years, further raising expectations of his future in formula 1.

Formula 1:

Due to his achievements in the lower categories, Oscar Piastri was recruited into the young driver program of the Alpine team and became the reserve driver of the team in 2022.

Starting with McLaren:

Following the conclusion of the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Alpine agreed to let him leave his contract earlier in order to test with McLaren. In his first ever race of the season, the Bahrain Grand Prix, he finished 18th on the grid but struggled with electrical issues and came into retirement. He made his debut in scoring, placing 8th in the Australian GP, his home race.

He had better and consistent results at the end of the season, including the British GP where he qualified 3rd and finished 4th, and his first podium in Formula 1 – the third place at the Japanese GP. Also, he took the win of the bunch of riders at the finish of the Qatar GP and got the second podium of the featured races. But he also had some problems, for instance the US GP where he had to retire and the Sao Paulo where he was unable to score points due to a crash. Piastri extended his contract with McLaren until the end of 2026 on 20 September 2023.

More Achievements of Oscar Piastri:

He ended up ninth overall in the Drivers’ Championship with 97 points and received ovations with gratitude, although he still had room for improvement in that he needs to use his available race pace and a better control of his tyres. He began the new season by qualifying eighth for the Bahrain Grand Prix and completing a race there. He then completed the eight positions at the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix and at the Australian Grand Prix where he finished fourth. He was also able to score additional points in Japan, China and in the sprint races in China and Miami, the non-feature race in Miami was however another disappointment as he clashed with Carlos Sainz Jr. and finished out of the points.

He was particularly impressive in Austria where he raced his way to the 2nd position in the sprint race and the 2nd position in the feature race for his third podium in Formula 1.

5th Australian win Formula 1:

He climbed to 2nd in Britain, but after a last minute change in tyre strategy, he ended up 4th. He started the Hungarian Grand Prix in the lead and then took his first win thanks to a switch in tactics by the team, thus becoming the 5th Australian to win a Formula 1 race, despite issues related to team orders for driver Lando Norris. At last, in Belgium, Piastri came third in the race but was upgraded to second place as George Russell was disqualified.
